Twitter has finally accepted India’s new IT rules. The company has appointed its Resident Grievance Officer in India. Twitter has told on its official website that it has appointed Vinay Prakash as the Grievance Officer. The government had implemented the new laws on February 25. These rules were to be followed within 3 months i.e. before May 25, but Twitter has followed these rules 46 days after the deadline.

Earlier on June 27, Dharmendra Chatur, the interim grievance officer of Twitter India, had resigned from his post. They were appointed a few weeks ago by Twitter India to comply with the new IT rules.

Also presented the first Grievance Redressal Report

  • Along with this, the company also presented its first Grievance Redressal Report (Compliance Report) for the period from 26 May to 25 June 2021. According to the new rules, it was made mandatory to present this report.
  • According to the report, the micro-blogging site has claimed to have taken action against 133 posts for reasons ranging from harassment to privacy violations and has also suspended more than 18,000 accounts for child sexual abuse and obscenity.
  • Apart from this, the company has said that it took action on 56 complaints related to Twitter account suspension. All these complaints were resolved and necessary responses were sent to the concerned. Out of these, 7 accounts were also reinstated in view of the situation.

The new IT minister had given a warning
The new IT minister Ashwini Vaishnav took over his ministry on July 8. Soon after, he was the first to warn Twitter. He said that the law of the land is above all and Twitter has to implement it.

In fact, before the expansion of the cabinet, IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had resigned from the ministry. It is believed that Ravi Shankar Prasad failed to save the country’s reputation in front of social media companies regarding the new IT Act and for this reason he was dismissed from the ministry.

The High Court and the Parliamentary Committee had said – the law of the country has to be followed

  • The Delhi High Court and the Parliamentary Committee had clearly said from Twitter that the law of the country is above all and it has to be obeyed. The parliamentary committee had asked Twitter whether you follow the law of India? On this Twitter had said that we follow our policy, which is according to the law of the country. Objecting to this argument, the committee had said in a stern tone to the company that the law of the country is the biggest in our country, not your policy.
  • The Delhi High Court had also said that if Twitter does not enforce the law, then it cannot be given any kind of protection. Justice Rekha Pillai had said that in the next hearing, you will come with a clear answer on the implementation of the IT Act, otherwise you will be in trouble.

Lost legal shield for not following the law

  • Earlier, Twitter lost its legal shield to third party content in India due to non-compliance with the new law. That is, from the government, he will not be given any kind of security regarding the content.
  • In simple words, now action can be taken against Twitter under IPC sections. Now that it has started following the law, in such a situation, the government can reconsider it.

5 cases on Twitter after Ravi Shankar controversy
On June 25, Twitter blocked the account of then IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad for an hour. Then Twitter cited the American Copyright Act. The government opposed this. After this, 5 cases were registered on Twitter, because it has lost its legal shield by not complying with the new IT laws.
He will not be given any kind of security from the government regarding the content. Action can be taken against Twitter under sections of IPC. Twitter itself is responsible for this situation.

1. The Ghaziabad Police had registered an FIR against Twitter in connection with the assault and indecency of a Muslim elder.
2. A case was registered in Bulandshahr for showing wrong flag of the country.
3. A case was registered in the cyber cell of Madhya Pradesh for showing the wrong flag of the country.
4. The Cyber ​​Cell of Delhi Police has registered a case in connection with child pornographic content. It was registered on the complaint of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
5. Case registered in Delhi regarding post content on Twitter platform regarding Hindu Goddess.
