Twitter Blue costs more on mobile than on PC
Twitter Blue gives you the edit tweet button, the ability to upload 1080p videos, and more. But why does mobile cost more?
Twitter Blue is making its way India This week for both PC and mobile users. Elon Musk The subscription service has been improved since it took over the platform in October last year, which meant Twitter Blue was offered to more countries, including India.
Having Twitter Blue will help people to get a verified badge (*blue tick) for their account, and many other benefits including less number of ads on Twitter feed.
But the biggest surprise that has come with this development is the Twitter Blue subscription price in India. Twitter is asking users to pay Rs 900 per month on Android and iOS, while those getting Twitter Blue for their account on the web version have to pay Rs 650 per month. So why is there a Rs 250 difference in the subscription price of Twitter Blue between web and mobile?
While Twitter didn’t specify the exact reason for the high price, it’s possible that Elon Musk and Co. factored in the 30 percent commission that both Google and Apple charge for apps hosted on their respective App Stores.
Musk has repeatedly expressed his displeasure with this strategy, calling it the Apple/Google tax. With Twitter launching Blue with different price bands on these devices, it seems like Musk has taken into account the additional cost, suggesting that people would be better off buying a subscription through the web version.
Having said that, we are not sure whether Twitter will offer the same users the verified badge and other benefits of Twitter Blue on their mobile app. The new-look Twitter Blue made its debut last year and costs $11 for users in countries like the US.
Many believed that Musk would have a different pricing strategy for markets like India, but Twitter Blue for Rs 900 per month is, as many have said, costlier than 4K UHD Premium. Netflix plan in the country.
Twitter offers Blue Verified badges, soon promising to show you only 50 percent of ads, boost your profile reach and Tweet to a wider audience. You’ll also get the ability to tweet with up to 4000 characters (only in some countries) and upload full-HD videos. You can also edit tweets and get access to beta features.
