Twitter banned over 46,000 bad accounts in India in May 2022

New Delhi: Twitter banned over 46,000 accounts of Indian users in May in violation of its guidelines, the microblogging platform said in its monthly compliance report on Sunday. According to the report, Twitter removed 43,656 accounts for child sexual abuse, non-consensual nudity and similar content, while 2,870 accounts were banned for promoting terrorism.

The forum received 1,698 complaints in India through its local grievance mechanism between April 26, 2022 and May 25, 2022. Twitter said in the report, “While we welcome everyone to express themselves on our platform, we do not tolerate behavior that is harassing, threatening, inhumane to suppress the voices of others.” does or uses fear.”

Meanwhile, according to its monthly transparency report on Sunday, Google India purged 393,303 bad content in May through automatic detection to curb the spread of harmful content such as child sexual abuse and violent extremist content.

The tech giant also removed 62,673 pieces of content in May as a result of user complaints.

On Friday, Meta-owned WhatsApp also announced that it has banned over 19 lakh bad accounts in India in the month of May in compliance with the new IT Rules 2021.

The platform banned over 16.6 lakh bad accounts in India in April.

The company also received 528 complaint reports in May within the country, and “actionable” accounts were 24.

In April, WhatsApp received 844 complaint reports within the country, and “actionable” accounts were 123.

Under the new IT Rules 2021, large digital and social media platforms with more than 5 million users will have to publish a monthly compliance report.
