Meanwhile, actor and producer of Tumbbad Sohum Shah announced Tumbbad 2 on September 14 amidst the re-release.

Tumbbad has made a splashing return to the box office after its re-release. The chilling film, directed by Rahi Anil Barve, made Rs 1.65 crore at the box office in Friday. The film held its own on a weekend when it clashed with Kareena Kapoor’s The Buckingham Murders. The Hansal Mehta film minted Rs 1.15 crore on Friday, as as per the trade website Sacnilk.

Meanwhile, Sohum Shah, actor and producer of Tumbbad, has announced – Tumbbad 2 on September 14. While he didn’t reveal a lot, he shared a teaser of the film, hinting at the sequel being even more mysterious and gripping than the first film.

Tumbbad has transformed into a high-grossing movie with an overall first-day business more than that of its 2018 original release. To put this into perspective, when Tumbbad was released for the first time, the movie managed to take an opening collection of just Rs 65 lakh. This time around, with a growing base of loyal fans and with the word-of-mouth acclaim that increased over the years, the film has soared past earlier box.

Other recent re-releases like Laila Majnu, Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein and Rockstar were no match for Tumbbad at the ticket counters..

As per reports, Tumbbad could surpass its original box number of Rs 10 crore nett in the first week itself. The film is going to be entering a rather smooth run at the box office mostly due to the lack of competition from other films in the theatres.

On the other hand, The Buckingham Murders has seen a slow start. The movie narrates the tale of a mourning detective, portrayed by Kareena, who is transferred to a new place after the death of her only son. There, she is entrusted with the case of a missing boy.
