The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) announced in a statement that the group “will not target political rallies, parties, processions and polling stations in the upcoming elections in the country.”

It also said that the TTP would continue its jihad against the Pakistan Army and security agencies. The statement also warned politicians not to take sides with the Pakistan Army.

A notification issued by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on March 8 said, “It has been learned through authentic sources that TTP is planning. [a] Heavy attack in Peshawar and its surrounding areas [the] Next 5-10 days. Necessary arrangements have been made in this regard.”

TTP has recently become very active in Pakistan. It targeted police lines in Peshawar and Karachi.

According to reports, in February alone, TTP and other religiously motivated terrorist groups carried out 19 attacks in the country, in which 23 people lost their lives and 79 were injured.

They carried out 14 attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, four in Balochistan and one in Karachi.

This is not the first time that TTP has threatened Pakistani leaders. On 4 January, the group warned the country’s major ruling parties of “concrete action” for “declaring war” against their top leadership in the government. In this, the names of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari have been clearly taken.
