The cancellation of preliminary examination for Group 1 services of the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) following the alleged question paper leak has been quite “stressful” and “mentally draining” for the candidates.
This exam, held on October 16 last year, was canceled due to alleged leak in the Assistant Engineer recruitment exam. Based on a report submitted by a Special Investigation Team, three recruitment examinations were canceled – Group 1 Services Preliminary Examination, Assistant Executive Engineer Examination and Divisional Accounts Officer (Works) Grade II Examination.
This has been a matter of trouble for those who passed the preliminary examination. Many took to social media to express their dismay. He said that his hard work went in vain and he is feeling disappointed.
“It is very stressful and mentally exhausting,” said Sudhira Katta, who resigned from her job in Wipro to prepare for the Group I exam.
“When I cleared Group I preliminary exam, I was really happy and it boosted my confidence. I thought I had something and if I worked hard for five months, I would be able to clear mains and get a job. I was studying really hard yesterday (Friday) until I came to know about the cancellation of the exam. After that nothing came to mind, and I have to start from the beginning. What is my fault here? Why am I suffering? she questioned.
But for some the cancellation is a blessing in disguise. “I think it is a blessing for me because though I prepared enough, I found the questions too long. Though I knew the answers, I could not attempt due to paucity of time. Now, Prelims is a mock exam. Feels like it and I got another chance to write it without wasting the year,” classical dancer Lakshmi Tejaswitha Donepudi told News18.
But another candidate, who is an engineering graduate in 2021 and has been preparing for the exam for the last two years, said this is not the first time this has happened in the state.
“I don’t have any professional experience. I am really disappointed with the actions of our state government. We have to bear the brunt of their negligence. This is not the first time this has happened in our state.”
The aspirant claimed that the recently conducted SCCL exam notification was also canceled after the result, as the vacancies were “bought by some people”.
“We fought for a separate state from the early 1950s for almost 69 years as we were discriminated against in every field. But even after getting separate statehood in 2014, genuine candidates and unemployed youth are being cheated by the state government due to inefficiency.
Group I preliminary exam will be conducted again on June 11. Police have arrested nine people for their alleged involvement in the paper leak. A TSPSC employee allegedly stole confidential data and sold it outside.

The TSPSC paper leak has given the opposition in Telangana a weapon to launch a crackdown against the ruling BRS party. Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Friday began a day-long hunger strike at the state party headquarters demanding the state government to order a judicial inquiry through a high court judge.
They also demanded that state Information Technology Minister KT Rama Rao should be sacked from the cabinet, as his IT department had failed to stop a question paper leak. He has also demanded a compensation of Rs one lakh each to the unemployed youths who suffered due to the complete overhaul of TSPSC and cancellation of exams. He and Huzurabad MLA Eatala Rajender and other BJP leaders were later arrested when they tried to gherao the TSPSC office in Nampally. He was released in the evening.
Former IPS officer and Telangana BSP President Dr RS Praveen Kumar also started fast unto death at the party office on Friday. He also met Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan and requested him to facilitate a CBI inquiry into the matter.
The Congress also took to the streets in protest and several people were arrested for marching from Gandhi Bhavan to the TSPSC office. Party chief A Revanth Reddy demanded an inquiry by the sitting judge.
Responding to these allegations, KTR said that the BJP has no moral right to raise questions about the leak as similar incidents have happened in BJP-ruled states. “The paper leak is not an institutional failure, but an individual failure. We will rectify our mistakes and ensure they are not repeated, he said after attending a meeting with ministers and top officials chaired by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
The BRS working president further said that the accused would not be spared and the state government would take strict action against those involved in the scam.
“We will bring reforms to conduct TSPSC examinations in a transparent and foolproof manner. Four exams were cancelled. Students appearing in the examination will not have to pay fees. The candidates who have applied for the exam also need not pay. We will conduct the exam as soon as possible by bringing reforms. Candidates who had applied earlier are also eligible to appear for the exam. We will make the coaching material available online for free. We have decided to strengthen study circles across the state and open reading rooms round the clock. The concerned District Collector will keep an eye on all these. We will extend our full cooperation to the students.
