TRS announces support of Yashwant Sinha for President’s post, KT Rama Rao will participate in nomination program today

Ahead of the presidential nomination, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi has announced the support of Yashwant Sinha, the joint opposition candidate for the post of President. TRS working president and minister KT Rama Rao will also attend Sinha’s nomination program on Monday.

“TRS President Shri KCR Garu has decided to support the candidature of Shri Yashwant Sinha ji in the election of the President of India. Along with my MPs, I will represent TRS in the nomination today,” Rao said in a tweet.

Sources said on Sunday that Rama Rao has already left for the national capital. Rama Rao, son of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (also known as KCR), and some TRS MPs will also attend the event.

Sources said that though KCR did not physically participate in the meeting of opposition parties to decide his common candidate for the presidential election, the ruling party in Telangana decided to support Sinha’s candidature.

The announcement came days after K Chandrasekhar Rao walked out of a larger meeting convened to discuss a joint strategy for the presidential election, which strongly objected to the Congress being invited.

Last week, opposition parties had declared Yashwant Sinha as its presidential candidate. Nationalist Congress Party leader Sharad Pawar, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah and former West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi had refused to be the presidential candidates of the opposition parties.

The presidential election to elect Ram Nath Kovind’s successor will be held on July 18 and the result will be out on July 21. Kovind’s term will end on July 24.
