Hyderabad: A 26-year-old woman committed suicide late on Thursday night at her house in Borabanda, SR Nagar. The woman, identified as Halima Begum (26), a native of Narayankade in Sangareddy, was married to Abdul Asif (30), a resident of Swaraj Nagar, Borbanda, in 2018. The couple has a two-year-old son.

According to the police, for the past one year, Asif and his family members have been harassing Halima over trivial matters. Asif allegedly abused her saying that she was not beautiful and fat and threatened that he would leave her and marry another woman.

Unable to bear the torture, the victim informed her mother of ending her life and hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her room. On receiving the information, SR Nagar Police reached the spot and investigated the matter. The body was shifted to the Gandhi Hospital morgue and later handed over to the family after post-mortem on Friday afternoon.
