Ekta Kapoor shared a special post for the cast and crew of Laila Majnu to celebrate the milestone.
Triptii Dimri and Avinash Tiwary’s Laila Majnu will make a grand return to the theatres on August 9. Directed by Sajid Ali, the romantic drama was released six years ago. Although the film failed to perform well at the box office, it gained widespread acclaim as a cult classic following its OTT debut. On Wednesday, Ekta Kapoor celebrated this milestone by sharing a series of photos on Instagram. Her post included the film’s posters, a handwritten note detailing the cinema halls where the movie will be screened, and behind-the-scenes glimpses from the set. Ekta said, “Laila Majnu back on popular demand!!! gratitude to your love that pulled it into theatres again after six years!! re-realising 9th Aug ‘24 in cinemas nationwide (check picture) congratulations team LM.”
Soon after, fans and followers flooded the comments section to express their enthusiasm for the re-release. One user wrote, “Wowwwwwwww that’s so cool!” Another added, “One of the best scripts.”
Ekta Kapoor has also reshared Imtiaz Ali’s Instagram Stories. FYI: Sajid Ali is Imtiaz’s brother.
During an interview with IANS, Triptii Dimri revealed that she never auditioned for her role in the movie. She was spotted by the film’s casting head, who thought she looked Kashmiri and suggested she audition for the part. That’s how she got the role. The movie, presented by Imtiaz Ali, was released theatrically on September 7, 2018.
Laila Majnu is set in modern-day Kashmir, where Laila (played by Triptii Dimri) and Qais (played by Avinash Tiwary) are madly in love but can’t be together due to family tensions. Apart from Triptii and Avinash, the film also features Abrar Qazi, Sumit Kaul, Sahiba Bali, Mir Sarwar, Farhana Bhat, and more. Although the film didn’t receive great reviews from critics, its music became a huge hit.
Meanwhile, Triptii Dimri was last seen in Bad Newz opposite Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk.
