Lucknow: A lover allegedly killed a woman and her parents with a sharp-edged weapon and locked her from inside when she entered their residence in Gonda late on Wednesday evening.
Ashok Kumar was upset as the woman’s family had fixed his marriage elsewhere.
The woman’s younger sister was seriously injured and doctors at the district hospital in Gonda referred her to the KGMU Trauma Center in Lucknow.
The police announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for information about the accused who fled the spot after the alleged crime. Five teams have been formed to arrest him.
Senior police officials said that Ashok Kumar entered the house of 67-year-old Devi Prasad, a retired railway employee, at Imliya Gurdayal on Bahraich Road under Kotwali police station area at around 6.30 pm.
He closed the channel gate from inside and entered with a sharp weapon.
“Ashoka first hit Devi Prasad and then his 50-year-old wife Parvati, who rushed to hear his cries. Subsequently, Ashok hit 26-year-old Shimpa, whose marriage was fixed recently, and his younger sister Sapna, 24,” police said.
He closed the door of the terrace so that Goddess Prasad’s daughter-in-law Lakshmi could not come and recognize him.
A senior police officer familiar with the investigation said, “Laxmi started screaming and attracted the attention of the neighbors who rushed to the rescue, after which the assailant got down from the roof using a rope and fled the spot.”
The neighbors immediately informed the police and called an ambulance to take the injured to the hospital.
Gonda Superintendent of Police Santosh Mishra, who reached the spot after getting information, said that Devi Prasad, his wife Parvati and their daughter Shimpa were declared brought dead by the doctors at the district hospital, while Sapna was referred to KGMU Trauma Centre, Lucknow.
Mishra said, “Devi Prasad’s daughter-in-law Lakshmi has said in her statement that the assailant wanted to marry Ashok Kumar Shimpa but her marriage was recently fixed elsewhere and he was upset about this. He was continuously calling Shimpa since morning and requesting her to run away with him.
Police said Ashok was wearing a black jacket and helmet to conceal his identity. DIG Devipatan Range Upendra Agarwal also reached the spot to supervise the investigation.
Agarwal told TOI, “Prima facie, it has emerged that the accused wanted to marry Shimpa, whose marriage was arranged elsewhere by the family, after which he brutally attacked the woman and her family, killing three. and one was seriously injured.”
