NS University Grants Commission Issued an advisory on Thursday, which states that the offer of Applied Mathematics courses CBSE In addition to pure science, the same may be considered for class 11 and 12 in mathematics while computing the total marks for admission to courses in humanities and commerce.
The Commission further urged the higher education institutions to take appropriate action for recognition of this new subject for the purpose of admission of students in degree programmes.
Applied Mathematics subject consists of 80 percent marks for theory and 20 percent marks for practical work in the board exam. This subject is offered under academic stream and has syllabus specifications which are compatible with other major subjects. This subject is a regular academic subject.
CBSE had earlier addressed a letter to the UGC stating that some universities make it mandatory for students to offer mathematics at the senior secondary level for taking admission in undergraduate courses in economics, commerce and social sciences etc.
“In view of this, you are requested to consider a new Applied Mathematics Curriculum at par with the existing Mathematics Curriculum of CBSE for admission to higher studies in courses other than Engineering, Mathematics and Physics.” read the letter
