BHUBANESWAR: Train services were affected on Monday evening after derailment of a goods train at Bhubaneswar Station yard. Many trains passing the busiest station of the state were detained at different railway stations because of this incident.
Five wagons of the Vizianagaram-bound cement-laden goods train derailed at about 8.35pm on Monday. It was coming from Chakradharpur division via Cuttack. The derailed wagons were not capsized, said East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources.
Around 20 passenger, express and superfast trains were detained and controlled at different stations before Bhubaneswar from both Khurda and Cuttack side. New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express and Howrah-Bhubaneswar Jan Shatabdi Express were detained at the outer signal of Bhubaneswar station.
Amritsar-Visakhapatnam Hirakud Express was detained at Mancheswar station. Other detained trains were Paradip-Puri Express, Howrah-Chennai Coromandel Express, Sainagar Shirdi-Puri Express, Howrah-Kanyakumari Express, Tata-Visakhapatnam Express, Gunupur-Rourkela Rajyarani Express, Puri-Durg Express, Puri-Gandhidhan Express, Puri-Howrah Express, Puri-Hatia Tapaswini Express, Puri-Rishikesh Kalinga Utkal Express, Mumbai-Bhubaneswar Konark Express and Visakhapatnam-Bhubaneswar InterCity.
ECoR official sources said track fit had been given after clearing one line at around 10pm. Trains were started one by one. Passengers faced difficulties due to train delay.
