New Zealand created history on Sunday (November 3) by becoming the first team to whitewash India in a three-match Test series played on Indian soil.
New Zealand beat India by 26 runs on Sunday (November 3) to win the third Test of the three-match series played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India failed to chase down the target of 147 runs and got all out for just 121 runs. Mumbai-born New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel picked up six wickets for 57 runs, and Glenn Phillips accounted for the dismissal of three Indian batters in his quota of 12 overs.
For India, apart from wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant (64) no other player was able to make any significant contribution.
New Zealand’s win in the third Test was their third straight triumph against India, and it also helped them become the first team in history to whitewash India in a three-match Test series played on Indian soil.
After India suffered a humiliating defeat in front of home fans, legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his disappointment. According to him, losing 0-3 at home is a tough pill to swallow.
“Losing 3-0 at home is a tough pill to swallow, and it calls for introspection. Was it lack of preparation, was it poor shot selection, or was it lack of match practice?” Tendulkar tweeted.

In his tweet, Tendulkar praised Shubman Gill and Pant’s batting in the third Test. While Gill top-scored for India in the first inning by making 90 runs, Pant scored half-centuries in both innings.
“@ShubmanGill showed resilience in the first innings, and @RishabhPant17 was brilliant in both innings—his footwork made a challenging surface look like a different one altogether. He was simply superb.”
The 51-year-old Tendulkar, who holds the record for scoring most runs in Tests and ODIs, also mentioned New Zealand in his viral tweet and credited them for their consistent performance throughout the series.
“Full credit to New Zealand for their consistent performance throughout the series. Winning 3-0 in India is as good a result as it can get,” he added.
New Zealand had only managed to win two Tests in India before coming to play the three-match series last month, but now they are the first and only team to win all three matches of a Test series in India.
