A top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander responsible for the attacks and killings of security forces and civilians was among the two terrorists killed in an overnight encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district, police said on Monday. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation on Sunday following specific information about the presence of militants in Chek Sadiq Khan area of ​​South Kashmir district, a police official said.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists opened fire on the security forces, who retaliated. The officer said that two terrorists were killed in exchange for the firing. One of the slain terrorists has been identified as Ishfaq Dar alias Abu Akram, the top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said.

Singh said Dar was active since 2017 and was responsible for a large number of terrorist crime cases, including attacks and killings on police, security forces and civilians. He said the second terrorist has been identified as Majid Iqbal.

The top police officer of Jammu and Kashmir said that the overnight operation has ended. An army official said two AK rifles and eight magazines were recovered from the encounter site.
