Top Indian batsmen continue to fall in latest women’s ICC ODI rankings

DUBAI: India captain Mithali Raj continues to climb up the ICC ODI rankings as she slipped three places to seventh in the latest rankings released on Tuesday in view of the ongoing World Cup in New Zealand, while opener Smriti Mandhana was ranked 11th. But slipped. Raj has 696 points after being dismissed for 31 and 5 against New Zealand and West Indies respectively. He is currently in joint seventh position with Australia opener Rachel Haynes.

Mandhana, on the other hand, moved up from the top 10 to 11th spot despite scoring 123 against West Indies on Saturday. Veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami, who is the highest wicket-taker in the World Cup, has also dropped two places to sixth in the bowlers’ list while Deepti Sharma has retained her sixth position in the all-rounders’ list.

Sophie Ecclestone, Amy Satterthwaite, Marijne Cup and Laura Wolvaardt have all made huge jumps in the rankings after their stellar performances in the ongoing World Cup. Despite England failing to win a single match in the World Cup, Ecclestone has been a shining light for his team, bowling with great discipline.

His performance has propelled him to the No. 1 spot in the bowling charts, overtaking Australia’s Jess Jonassen. The second big gainer in the bowling chart is Marijne Kapp, who recorded her international career best figures during South Africa’s three-wicket win against England.

His 5/45 helped South Africa restrict England to 235/9 and he scored a crucial 32 runs with the bat as well as in the chase. In the batting charts, New Zealand’s Satterthwaite and South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt have been the two big gainers.

Satterthwaite scored 75 and then made 44 in New Zealand’s 62-run victory against India as his team lost by 141 runs against Australia. His performances have seen him rise five places, up to No. 3 in the batting rankings. Wolvaardt, who scored 75 and 77 in South Africa’s victories against Pakistan and England, respectively, climbed seven places to reach the top 10 of the batting charts at number five.

In the all-rounders’ chart, Hayley Matthews has seen his shares rise after a steady performance for West Indies. He scored 45 and 43 in West Indies’ matches against England and India, while also recording figures of 2/40 and 1/65 in those games. This has seen her move up to number 2 on the charts, gaining two positions.
