Top BCCI officials in England to discuss head coach Ravi Shastri’s future – Report

The BCCI’s top president, vice-president and secretary- have landed in England and will remain there till the end of the second Test at Lord’s. Media is now reporting that his top agenda is to have a brief discussion with head coach Ravi Shastri as his tenure ends just after the T20 World Cup in UAE.

Shastri took over from Anil Kumble in 2017, especially at a time when the team was going through turmoil. His resume as a coach got a massive boost with two wins in Australia and some memorable performances in South Africa and England.

“It is too early to talk about this, but as you know the President, Secretary, Treasurer and Vice President are landing in London today. So he will interact with Shastri and the team and discuss various things about the tour and future of Indian cricket. If there is much more about Shastri not continuing, it will certainly be discussed during the Lord’s Test. But I would still say too early,” the source was quoted as saying by ANI.

Confused by the exclusion of former great player Ashwin

One major change that no one saw at Lord’s was Ravi Ashwin heating the benches again. The Tamil Nadu cricketer warmed up for the five-match series with some stellar performances in the county game against Somerset, and it was anyone’s guess that he would be in the squad; But, things changed when he was dropped for the first Test. Worse, he didn’t even play at Lord’s, where conditions were ideal for spin.

Ignoring the fans and experts, former cricketers like VVS Laxman, Michael Vaughan have questioned Team India’s decision.

“Ishant Sharma comes into the team if he is 100% fit, probably in place of Mohammad Siraj. I don’t understand what changed from the WTC finals when your first-choice spinner was there and suddenly in a month, he is not even getting a place in the XI,” Laxman told ESPNcricinfo.
