Tom Cruise has a message for fans as Top Gun Maverick arrives in theaters: ’36 years after the first movie…’

36 years after the first Top Gun film, Tom Cruise is back with the next installment of his thriller – Top Gun: Maverick. The film released today, May 27, with early reviews hailing it as one of the best action films of the year. The film is a sequel to 1986’s Top Gun, which tells the story of fighter pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, played by Tom Cruise. Ahead of the film’s release, Tom shared a message for his fans on Twitter. The 59-year-old actor tweeted, “36 years after the first film, Top Gun: Maverick is finally here. We made it for the big screen. And we made it for you, the fans. I hope you enjoy this.” Will enjoy the weekend ride.”

The actor has made it clear that his film will not release on the streaming platform as he has made it for the big screen. Like all of his films, Top Gun: Maverick has real stunts. The actor flew a fighter jet on his own and also designed a course for fellow actors in the film to be able to fly planes. Unlike most action movies these days, Top Gun: Maverick was not shot in front of Chroma.

Reacting to Tom’s latest tweet, fans have shared their experience of watching the film in theatres. One of the fans commented, “Congratulations! I saw it yesterday here in Hungary. I loved every moment! You are an amazing artist! Good luck everyone! God bless you!”

Another fan commented, “Finally! And it was worth the wait. The clean-up crew basically had to tell me to leave when I was finished. Sadness.”

Several of its world premieres, including London, Mexico City, Japan, Top Gun: Maverick, also premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. The film received a six-minute long standing ovation after the end and Tom was also awarded an honorary Palme d’Or award.

Top Gun Maverick also stars Miles Teller, Val Kilmer, Jennifer Connelly
