Tokyo: Number of people sworn in olympics To ensure gender equality, the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Games has been doubled from three to six, with the IOC announcing that it has slightly reworked the oath to include “inclusion and equality”.
The Olympic oath is administered by an athlete from the host county on behalf of all competitors, and the ceremony is also attended by a coach and a judge.
This time, Japan will choose two from each group – a male and a female – for the event, which has been an integral part of the Games since 1920. The showpiece will start from 23rd July.
“The gender balance of oath-takers is one of a large number of decisions and commitments made by the IOC and the IOC. Organising Committee The Olympic Charter calls for the promotion of women in sport at all levels and in all formations,” the IOC said.
Two words – inclusion and equality – have been added to the opening line of the oath.
Depending on the speaking group, the new oath reads: “In the name of the athletes”, “In the name of all judges” or “In the name of all coaches and officers”.
“We promise to participate in these Olympic Games, respecting and following the rules and in the spirit of fair play, inclusion and equality. Together we stand in solidarity and without doping, without cheating, without any Committed to the game of discrimination.

The new wording of the Olympic Oath derives from a set of recommendations prepared by the IOC Athletes’ Commission. These recommendations were approved by the IOC Executive Board in April 2021.

The Olympic Oath was recited for the first time at the opening ceremony of the 1920 Games. The original text was written by Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic Games.
Following the decision taken by the IOC Executive Board, all participating National Olympic Committees (NOC) has been provided with the opportunity to have one female and one male athlete as flag bearers during the opening ceremony.
India has named boxer MC Mary Kom and men’s hockey team captain Manpreet Singh as the flag bearers of the country’s contingent during the opening ceremony.
Wrestler Bajrang Punia will be the flag bearer at the closing ceremony on August 8.
