Saikhom Mirabai Chanu claimed India’s maiden medal at the Tokyo Olympics on Saturday in the women’s 49kg weightlifting event. Mirabai lifted a total of 202kg – 87kg in the snatch and 115kg in the clean and jerk as she finished second behind China’s Hou Zihui of 210kg (94 and 116), who set an Olympic record in the snatch.
Indonesia’s Aisha Windi Kantika won the bronze medal with a total of 194kg.
