Tokyo: First Covid-19 case reported in Olympic Village

New Delhi: Tokyo Olympic organizers have confirmed a COVID-19 case at the Tokyo Olympic Village. The news comes just six days before the game.

Speaking to the press, Tokyo organizing committee spokesman Masa Takaya said, “There was a person in the village. This was the first case in the village that was reported during a screening test,” AFP reported.

The committee declined to reveal the identity of the person, saying the man has been removed from the village where thousands of athletes and officials live for the duration of the Games. That person is currently staying in a hotel.

Seiko Hashimoto, the main organizer of the Tokyo 2020 Games, was quoted by AFP as saying: “We are doing everything we can to prevent any Covid outbreaks. If we end up with an outbreak we will make sure we have a response.” Have a plan for it.”

With the Games already delayed by a year, the organizers will have to take tough measures.

India’s first batch of Olympic-bound athletes will leave for Tokyo on July 17, IOA President Narinder Batra said on Thursday, adding that IOA officials who have landed in Tokyo ahead of the Olympic Games have found the facilities very good. and some are “dining halls”. Tokyo reported 1,271 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, marking the 27th day in a row where the tally is higher than a week ago. It was also the third consecutive day that the total number of infections crossed 1,000.
