The world’s largest stock exchange ‘The New York Stock Exchange’ ie NYSE was started on this day. It was started by just 24 people. Today more than 2 thousand companies are registered in this stock exchange. It is the largest stock exchange in the world by market capitalization. Today, more than 9 million stocks and securities are traded on the NYSE every day. NYSE is also known as ‘The Big Board’.

All the people who started it used to do the business of trading bonds and securities in New York. In March 1792, these people met in a hotel in New York. Its purpose was to make the business more secure and better.

On this day in 1792, these 24 merchants signed an agreement, which was named Buttonwood Agreement. In this agreement there were rules and regulations related to business. In fact, this agreement was signed in a garden under a Buttonwood tree, that is why it was named Buttonwood Agreement. With this the New York Stock Exchange was started.

NYSE started business with 2 bank bonds and 3 government bonds. In 1967 the first woman named Muriel Seibert traded on the NYSE. In 2007, the NYSE and the European stock exchange Euronext merged. The very next year, the NYSE acquired the US Stock Exchange.

Famous actor Charlie Chaplin died on 25 December 1977. His body was buried near a lake in Geneva, but three months after his burial, his dead body was stolen from the tomb. Five weeks later, police arrested two Bulgarians for stealing Charlie’s dead body. Their names were Romana Vardas and Gancho Gainev. Finally, on May 17, 1978, both of them handed over his dead body to the police.

During interrogation, both the thieves told that they were going through financial crisis, so they stole Charlie’s dead body. Both wanted to start a new business with the money received in return. Later, Charlie’s dead body was buried in the Village of Noville, near Switzerland. This time Charlie’s body was buried under a sturdy slab of concrete, so that his dead body could not be stolen again.
