Fed up with stray animals destroying their crops, farmers in several villages here have allegedly locked such animals in government schools.

In many villages including Rasulpur Kalan, Kariya Bain, Aslaur, Achaura, Kundra Majra, Hazratpur and Abhigaon, farmers chased away stray cattle with sticks and locked them in government schools. They also filmed the acts and posted them on social media.

Talking to media persons, the villagers alleged that stray cattle were damaging their agricultural fields and they were being forced to lock the animals in the school buildings.

Farmers allege that despite repeated complaints, the authorities did not pay any attention to the problem of stray cattle.

District Magistrate Manoj Kumar told that the SDM and concerned Tehsildars were immediately sent to the schools where stray cattle were closed and temporary cow shelters are being prepared to shift the animals there.

Proper arrangements are also being made for their fodder.

The construction work of many gaushalas in the district is in the final stage. Along with this, a plan to use the closed old godown and tin shed of the factory in Bitroi village as a cow shed is also being considered.

Police said no complaint has been given so far by the education department or school authorities regarding the culling of stray animals.

Hence, no action has been initiated, he said.
