With incumbent Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami losing the election from Khatima, the BJP leadership held a crucial meeting on Thursday to discuss names for the top post in the state.
According to sources, the decision to shortlist the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand is likely to be taken in a day or two.
Top sources in the BJP also said that it is contemplating choosing a CM from among the elected representatives as they do not want a repeat of the furore when an MP Tirath Singh Rawat was slapped with Dhami for averting a constitutional crisis in the state. Had to change. ,
Rawat was not a member of the state legislature even though it was mandatory to become a member within six months of assuming office.
Sources further said that the crucial meeting on the assembly election results took place on Thursday night at the party headquarters in New Delhi, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah and party chief JP Nadda were present.
Sources have ruled out the possibility of any Lok Sabha member being parachuted as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.
“Whoever has to be given an elected seat is unlikely to be considered,” the senior BJP leader said.

“It is a possibility. But so far we have not been informed about any decision,” said another senior BJP leader.
While many names are running in the forefront, the BJP is trying to choose a leader who can take everyone along to maintain stability in the organisation.
Party sources said the observers have been finalized and they will be sent to the states where elections have been held. “The supervisors are being finalized and will be announced soon and sent to the states,” a source said.
“Punjab, Manipur and Uttarakhand were discussed in the meeting,” the source added.
Out of the 70-member Uttarakhand assembly, the BJP had won 47 seats on March 10.
