TN’s daily Covid-19 count falls below 1000 after almost a year

Tamil Nadu’s daily Covid infections fell below the 1,000-mark on Monday after a gap of 11 months, when the state reported 990 new cases. According to a government bulletin here, the declining trend of active cases also continued with 11,309.

The active cases on Sunday stood at 11,492. Earlier, the state had seen new infections below the 1000 mark on December 28, 2020, when 957 new infections were reported.

The total number of persons who tested positive so far stood at 27,03,613. On Monday, 1,153 persons were cured of the virus, taking the total number of recoveries to 26,56,168.

After 20 fresh deaths, the toll touched 36,136. Coimbatore (117) and Chennai top the districts in terms of fresh cases with 111 new cases.

Mayiladuthurai reported zero infections, while eight districts in the state reported new cases in single digits. Meanwhile, with the decrease in cases, the government took precautions, adhering to the Covid-19 protocol and warned against any laxity in the administration of the vaccine.
