TMC’s campaign posters were vandalized in many areas of Goa, party accuses BJP

Trinamool Congress poster featuring the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee And his slogan ‘Goenchi Navi Sakal’ (New Dawn of Goa) got destroyed in many parts of the state. Goa Trinamool Congress blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party for the incident and said, “BJP reportedly held a closed-door meeting today, where it was decided that all hoardings of Goa TMC across the state would be damaged overnight.”

In an official statement, the Goa TMC said, “Defacing Mamata Banerjee’s face in the hoardings is a shameful act in itself, what is more worrying is how the BJP is destroying local businesses in the throes of power. They forget that in all such contracts it is the obligation of the merchants or seller to replace any damaged billboards with their own money.

So, clearly, BJP is not only spreading hatred but also attacking the livelihood of hundreds of Goans by destroying their business. Such actions are an attack on the fearless environment for business. Goa TMC condemns this act of vandalism which amounts to insulting a woman who is the only current woman Chief Minister of the country. The people of Goa will surely give a befitting reply to such a vindictive government.”

Responding to the incident, TMC national vice president Luizinho Faleiro said, “I have seen BJP people tearing up and destroying TMC’s legal hoardings, as they fear TMC’s entry in Goa elections. This is not right. In a democracy, every political party should be allowed to put forth its policies, programs in front of the people.”

He further added, “Tear down the hoardings and understand them and I appeal to them not to do so because here, small businessmen who are renting hoardings for TMC and who are under legal obligation to protect it, are facing losses. Will come in. Such vandalism will further harm our Goans who are involved in this advertising system.”

A delegation of TMC MPs also submitted a memorandum to Goa Governor Sreedharan Pillai, demanding action on the incidents of vandalism. TMC MP Saugata Roy said, “I have been getting a large number of telephone calls after the hoardings of TMC were vandalized and destroyed. The poster reads ‘Goenchi Navi Sakal’ which means New Dawn of Goa. It is a message without criticizing anyone. Mamata Banerjee is the most popular leader and this is not acceptable especially on the eve of her coming to Goa.

“As Mr. Faleiro explained, these hoardings can be replaced by contractors. We also told him about the incident to the governor, who also has great respect for Mamata Banerjee. He said he would forward both of our memoranda. Will increase

Mamata Banerjee is all set to visit Goa on October 28 and sound the poll bugle in the coastal state. She is scheduled to meet local leaders as well as people from different sections of the society during her stay in Goa.
