TMC picks up in Tripura demanding arrest of attackers of Abhishek Banerjee’s convoy

Trinamool Congress leaders staged a sit-in in Tripura’s Agartala on Thursday as they claimed that no action has been taken by the state police in relation to the attack on the convoy of Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

The protest was led by TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, who is currently in Agartala, along with several other TMC workers and supporters.

Speaking to CNN-News18, one of the TMC members who protested, Sudip Raha said, “It has been 72 hours but no arrests have been made by the police yet. Apart from this, we had also lodged a complaint with the DGP yesterday. 24 hours have passed but no action has been taken yet. We also went to the police station along with former MP Kunal Ghosh but we were stopped on the way. This, despite following all the COVID protocols in the state. When we asked the police whether any action has been taken or not, they said they were not even aware of the matter. There is no security in this state, the law and order situation has to be observed.”

The TMC has also said that they will continue their protest till action is taken against those involved in the alleged attack on Abhishek Banerjee’s convoy.

The Trinamool Congress has lodged a complaint with the Director General of Police at the Tripura Police Headquarters in Agartala on Wednesday. The complainants have also attached a copy of the video of the alleged attack.

Earlier, top TMC leaders including West Bengal minister Bratya Basu, Moloy Ghatak and MP Derek O’Brien also visited Tripura over the alleged detention of election strategist Prashant Kishor’s I-PAC team in Agartala.

After winning the West Bengal Assembly elections with a comfortable majority, the Trinamool Congress is now eyeing Tripura, which is set to hold elections in the state in 2023.
