The football club, which will be launched on April 15, aims to challenge the bigwigs of Mohun Bagan and East Bengal.
In West Bengal, football and politics are inseparable. Thinking along the same lines, Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee is all set to launch Diamond Harbor Football Club on April 15, which is also Bengali New Year’s Day. Banerjee is an MP for Diamond Harbour, and was first elected in 2014.
The club’s logo will be decided by the public, for which a special competition is underway. Interested people can design the logo and send it to the WhatsApp number by April 10.
Club insiders said there was huge interest among players to get a chance in this team as it would aim to challenge the bigwigs of club football, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal. The club has already started its campaign on social media and the teaser trailers are also on Facebook, Twitter, Ku and Instagram.
Banerjee has been conducting the MP Football Cup for four years. He said: “I told you all last year that we were planning to come up with a club; now, we are coming up with one and all the good artists will get a chance to play here.
The club has already applied for affiliation with the Football Association of India. Former football player Krishnandu Roy will be the coach.
The Diamond Harbor Club website states, “A club that nurtures budding players and provides them with a platform to pursue their dreams… Diamond Harbor Football Club aims to achieve the impossible. Budding players A club full of those who dare to dream, those who dare to go above and beyond.”
