A local court sent Deb, who had recently left the Congress and joined the Trinamool, to three days’ police custody.

The Trinamool Congress on Monday held a protest in Agartala against the arrest of a senior party leader for abetment to suicide.

Trinamool leader Panna Deb was arrested on Sunday following all valid norms as her niece had mentioned “Deb’s name in a note before committing suicide”, police said.

A local court sent Deb, who had recently left the Congress and joined the Trinamool, to three days’ police custody.

Trinamool leader Subal Bhowmik, who led the protests, said that the police did not even tell them that a suicide note had been found and even the deceased girl’s mother and family members denied any suicide note. .

“The so-called suicide note reappeared a few days after the girl’s suicide. It is a well-planned conspiracy by the BJP government to harass the Trinamool leaders,” he said.

Bhowmik said that the police did not even consult any handwriting or forensic expert before coming to the conclusion that it was actually written by the deceased.

“Panna Deb has been wrongly arrested. We will continue our protest till his release,” he said. A Trinamool statement said the deceased woman was reportedly suffering from mental disorder for the past 14 years.

His mother, who was involved in Monday’s demonstrations, said that the police did not speak to her even once about the incident, the statement said.
