Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam to act on poor quality of Prasadam

Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) is known for its attractive decorations and naivedyam of exotic food items.

From the beginning of the good morning service to the ekantha siwa, the priests used to offer a wide range of Annaprasad, and edible varieties made from flour mixed with cashew or cashew.

Raw material is procured through e-auction and after finalization of tenders from certain organizations. The lowest bidders in the tenders will receive tenders for the supply of raw materials, cereals, pulses, or pulse items including cashews, almonds and others. A1-grade quality material will be used for preparation of Prasadam and Naivedyam and food items.

Tenders were called for two years for the supply of 1.70 lakh kg of cashew nuts to TTD and other temples for nitya annadaman and other rituals.

Bengaluru-based Hindustan Makkah won the tender for supply of first quality cashew nuts at Rs 650 per kg and second grade at Rs 534 per kg.

And the lowest bidder will have to supply the same to TTD for this purpose.

However, an investigation revealed that poor quality GDappu or cashew nuts were supplied by the organization that had received the tender.

Sensation spread in TTD after the officers ordered an inquiry.

The company supplied 150 tonnes of GDPappu in 10 lorries to TTD, which received the stock at a warehouse office in Alipiri. CEO Jawahar Reddy and Additional EO Dharam Reddy ordered an inquiry to know the details of irregularities after receiving complaints about poor quality with pests.

He directed to investigate the alleged irregularities of poor quality cashew nuts. Scrutiny revealed that the supplier had sent cashew nuts of substandard quality to TTD. TTD officials took serious cognizance and warned of action and returned for best quality. However, the supplier sent the same poor quality cashew nuts in new packing to TTD.

When the employees opened the pockets, they were surprised that the same cashews came back in new pockets. It was found that some employees of TTD’s warehousing office in Alipiri area were involved in such misconduct.

It was found that cashews of inferior quality similar to Naivedyam were sent to Govindarajula Swamy temple. On inquiry, it was revealed that some contractors are indulging in such malpractices with the help of warehouse and marketing staff. Since fake cashew nuts were used to prepare Srivari Prasadam in the process, the officials turned serious on the staff.

After worship and darshan in the temple, devotees eagerly wait for the offerings of the Lord. Of course the devotees used to get the darshan of the Lord and then the laddus of Srivari as blessings. There are more offerings to be made to Mulmurthi, which are not known to the devotees, and only a few of them will be given to the devotees as a ritual later. Archana Swami used to regularly offer these edible varieties to the Lord. They offer milk, paneer, pongal, pulihora, sugar pongli to the deity in the form of naivedyam. It is known to some devotees that the delicious dosa and spicy black pepper are similar to Pongal Naivedyam. According to the Vaikhanas tradition, the edible varieties are prepared on a “wood stove”. This place is situated near Srivari Garbhaalaya where devotees take round for darshan. All kinds of delicious and delicious dishes are prepared at this place. As per tradition, naivedyam foods are offered to Sribhu Varahaswamy and then Lord Venkateswara amidst the sound of the bell. Then 50 edible varieties will be presented to other deities in the temple and to Bedi Anjaneya Swamy in front of the temple.

Later, the temple authorities offer offerings like laddus, chakkar pongli, miriyala pongli, chhote laddus and pulihora to the devotees.

Apart from this, those who attended Arijit Sivas will get some other sweets and other items like Jalebi, Laddus, Vada, Dosha, Murku and others.
