KKR also made a change in Shakib Al Hasan, who gets a game in place of Tim Seifert.

KKR vs SRH match preview

Out of the race for the play-offs, bottom-ranked Sunrisers Hyderabad will look to minimize the chances of Kolkata Knight Riders reaching the knockout stage in their IPL match here on Sunday. With nine losses from 11 matches, SRH are at the bottom, while KKR are still expected to qualify for the knockout stage as they are fourth with 10 points from 12 matches.

SRH have won just one match out of the four they have played since the resumption of the IPL in the UAE. While SRH were back on a winning track after five consecutive losses to Rajasthan Royals, they lost their last game in Sharjah by six wickets, allowing Chennai Super Kings to qualify for the play-offs. Sunrisers had dropped their lone IPL winner (2016) captain David Warner after being dropped from the captaincy, but that did not change the team’s fortunes as Kane Williamson was unable to revive the Orange Army’s fortunes. For SRH, batting is their weakest link, especially in the absence of Jonny Bairstow.

While English opener Jason Roy made his debut with a quick 60 and Williamson also scored 51 in their successful chase of 165 against RR, both came off a crooner in their last game against CSK. Wriddhiman Shah scored 44 runs in 46 balls but SRH could not accelerate in the death overs and could only manage 37 runs in the last five overs against CSK.

Their India players like Priyam Garg, Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samsad will have to step up if SRH are to save some glory and end the season on a positive note. In the bowling department, Jason Holder has given him success time and again but senior India pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Siddharth Kaul have disappointed. Leg-spinner Rashid Khan is SRH’s biggest weapon against any opposition but he didn’t have enough runs to play for most of the times. For KKR, the UAE leg of the IPL has been a turnaround as they have won three games so far, while losing two.

The two-time former champion impressed with his performance in the second half and even had a short two defeats, where he lost in the last over. Venkatesh Iyer has been a star performer for KKR with the bat in the second leg, while Rahul Tripathi has scored the most runs for the team this season.

The decision to move Nitish Rana up the order has also paid dividends, but Shubman Gill hasn’t been able to capitalize on the start. In bowling, Varun Chakraborty has been his favorite as he took six wickets in the second leg, while Sunil Narine has also been involved in the wickets.

But with Andre Russell and Lockie Ferguson out of the game after injuries, they have concerns in the pace department, forcing captain Eoin Morgan to make changes. Even the KKR skipper needs to have some runs under his belt.

Tim Southee and Shivam Mavi are the new fast bowling pair for KKR and they will need to move on. Fast bowler Pranbhav Krishna did well against CSK to pick up four wickets in the matches he played before conceding 22 runs in the 19th over.
