Images of banners put up by fans of Ajith aka AK and Thalapathy Vijay in an attempt to win the title of Ajith’s ‘Thunivu’ and Vijay’s ‘Varisu’ are currently going viral. This upcoming Pongal season, actors Vijay’s Vaarisu and Ajith’s Thunivu are gearing up for a massive battle at the box office. While it remains to be seen which of the Tamil actors rules the box office, their fans are already trying their best to upstage each other.
Pictures from Parangimalai Jothi Theater in Chennai have become the talk of the town after fans raised massive banners of Thunivu and Vaarisu against each other. Ajith’s fans initially hung a huge banner supporting Thunivu at the Jothi theatre. In response, Vijay’s fans raised a huge banner for Warisu, which overshadowed Thunivu’s hoardings. The battle of the banners has captured the attention of the Internet.
Warisu is directed by Telugu director Vamsi Paidipally. The film marks the debut of Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna together. Along with Vijay and Rashmika in the lead roles, Prakash Raj, Sham, Khushbu, Prabhu, Sarathkumar, Yogi Babu and Samyukta are playing prominent roles. Two recent tracks of the film, ‘Ranjitham’ and ‘Thee Thalapathy’ have also been released and are currently trending apart from the film’s poster.
Meanwhile, Thunivu stars Ajith Kumar and is directed by H. Vinoth. The film will hit the theaters in Pongal 2023. The posters of the new film have been released and are becoming increasingly popular online. After the films Neerkonda Paarvai and Valimai, AK has teamed up with director H Vinoth and producer Boney Kapoor again for Thunivu. In this film, ‘Asuran’ fame Manju Warrier has played the lead role along with Ajith. They were joined by John Kokken, Veera, Samuthirakani and many others.
Talking about the box office clash, actor Vijay said that he sees the simultaneous release of both the films as a cause for great celebration.
The box office rivalry between these two high-profile films has created quite an uproar in the industry. Actor Sham said during his recent interview for a YouTube channel in Tamil that the release of Thunivu on the same day was welcomed by actor Vijay, his Vaarisu co-star. Actor Shaam discusses Vijay’s reaction after learning about the tussle. He added, “I was talking to Vijay sir recently and I mentioned that he had confirmed the release of Thunivu on the same day as Vaarisu. Vijay remarked, ‘That’s cool, isn’t it? He’s a Dost bhi hai. Let his and our films be successful together. That’s the kind of celebration,” Sham claimed.
