Thiruvananthapuram: The state government is ready to expand Thrifty Clinic Center for free treatment of diabetic children at nine more centers, Minister of Social Justice and Higher Education R point said in the assembly on Tuesday. There are currently five centers in the state.
Responding to a submission from the Leader of the Opposition VD SatisanThe Minister said that in addition to the five existing centres, the government has decided to start nine more satellite centers of Mitty Clinics. These will be opened at Government Medical Colleges in Kannur and Ernakulam, Victoria Hospital in Kollam, District Hospital at Kozhencherry, Taluk Hospital at Adimali, Women and Children Hospital at Palakkad, District Hospital at Perinthalmanna, General Hospital at Kalpetta and District Hospital at Kanhangad. Presently, they are operating in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur and Kozhikode Medical college.
The concept of Thrifty Clinic is a comprehensive six-stage project that ensures treatment for children with type-1 diabetes up to the age of 18 years. The minister said that the government has earmarked Rs 3.8 crore in 2021-22 for the operation of the project. He said that so far 1,085 children are the beneficiaries of this project.
The Minister said that the Government has ensured door-to-door delivery of medicines at their homes in view of the difficulty faced by children and their parents with type-1 diabetes in accessing clinics during the spread of COVID-19. Also, at the time of pandemic, these hospitals, where satellite centers are planned, were converted into COVID-19 hospitals, which is why there has been a delay in launching satellite centers of thrift clinics in these hospitals.
The minister said that the funds required to start these centers have already been transferred to the superintendents of the respective hospitals. Besides, training has also been given to the pediatricians of these clinics. Purchase order has been issued for procurement of equipment and medicines through Kerala Medical Services Corporation Limited.KMSCLThe Minister said that in view of the reduction in the number of Kovid-19 cases in the state, the satellite centers will start operating from the second week of April.
