Three arrested with 35 gold biscuits worth Rs 2.86 crore in Muzaffarpur. Patna News – Times of India

Patna : Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence)DRI) And Custom Three persons, who were traveling in a car, were arrested and 35 gold biscuits weighing 5.85 kg and worth at least Rs 2.86 crore were seized near Maithi toll plaza in Muzaffarpur district on Sunday.
DRI sources revealed the matter after interrogating the three arrested on Monday for several hours and sent them to judicial custody after producing them in a Muzaffarpur court.
Sources said that simultaneous raids were conducted by DRI teams in Delhi, which led to the recovery of 5.5 kg pure gold biscuits smuggled. The DRI also detected huge cash transactions in Bhopal from the sale of smuggled gold.
In Muzaffarpur, sources said the biscuits were of 24-carat gold and were hidden in a specially made box under the battery casing in the engine of the car. Sources said that the arrested people had pasted.pressThe logo on the car, bearing the registration number of Assam, to avoid any doubt.
He said the biscuits seized in Muzaffarpur are suspected to be of Myanmar origin as they were engraved with the symbols used in Myanmar bullion market. “The biscuits are 100% gold. The action in Delhi and Bhopal was against the same syndicate involved in Muzaffarpur smuggling.
“The consignment intercepted at Muzaffarpur was smuggled inside Indian territory from Moreh (Manipur), which shares international border with Myanmar. The three arrested had picked up the consignment from Guwahati. It was to be distributed in Varanasi,” said a source in the DRI.
He said the entire consignment was to be used at the Varanasi bullion market and at a few different places.
“Follow up is underway in Varanasi. At present, nothing further can be disclosed. The names of the three arrested are being hidden for security reasons. They have smuggled gold on several occasions in the past too,” said another source.
