Threat letter to judge: West Bengal lawyer in cop net | Kolkata News – Times of India

BURDWAN: A lawyer was arrested on Monday for allegedly sending a threat letter to Asansol special CBI court judge Rajesh Chakraborty last week. Police said Sudipta Roy had faked the signature of Bappa Chatterjee, head clerk of East Burdwan’s executive magistrate, in the letter.
Last Tuesday, Chakraborty had alerted the district judge and Calcutta HC to a letter he had received, threatening to frame his family in a drugs case if cattle-smuggling-accused Anubrata Mandal were not granted bail. The letter bore Chatterjee’s signature, but Chatterjee denied writing it.
“Roy had earlier been suspended from the bar,” said Sadan Tah, secretary, East Burdwan Bar Association. The cops are also probing whether Roy had been questioned in connection with a threat text message sent to CM Mamata Banerjee in 2016.
