In his reply to the Motion of Thanks for the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha, PM Narendra Modi said the Constitution works as a light house and gives us directions

Taking a swipe at the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said those who can be spotted “jumping around” with the Constitution nowadays are the very people who opposed the government’s announcement to observe ‘Samvidhan Diwas’ on November 26.

In his reply to the Motion of Thanks for the President’s address, he said the Constitution works as a light house and gives us directions. “For us, the Constitution is not just a compilation of articles, but its spirit and words are also of utmost importance to us,” he said.

“When we announced that November 26 will be Samvidhan Diwas, some people, who nowadays can be seen jumping with the Constitution in their hand, opposed it saying when there is already January 26 then why change another date,” he added.

In his address in Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister also said that for his party BJP, the Constitution is not just a compilation of articles but its spirit and words are very important too. It acts like a lighthouse for governments, he said adding that Constitution Day will disseminate the spirit of the Constitution in the country.

Modi said this is the first time in six decades that a government has returned to power after being in office for 10 years. The third term for the BJP-led NDA is for making India a developed and self-reliant nation, he said. The verdict is to make India the world’s third-largest economy from the current fifth, he said.

The Prime Minister also targeted the Congress for its statement that the country was bound to grow irrespective of who was in power. He added those who ran the government on the auto-pilot mode can only make such statements.
