Ludhiana : Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said on Tuesday that the district level Independence day In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year the celebrations will be a low-key affair and strict adherence to safety precautions will be ensured at any cost.
The Deputy Commissioner, presiding over the meeting to review the preparations for the mega event, said that this time 200 people have been allowed to gather as per the guidelines of the government and the function would be kept simple and precise.
Referring to the state government’s guidelines amid a possible third wave of COVID-19, he said there would be no large gatherings during the event as it used to be in previous years and Punjab Police Will salute
He also said that as of now there will be no other activities like PT shows, cultural programmes, parades etc. to maintain the safety guidelines.
Sharma said that health and safety protocols including social distancing, wearing of masks, sanitizing hands, disinfecting the premises will be given top priority.
He directed the police officers to ensure that their security personnel follow all safety protocols to avoid further spread of the virus especially in search operations. He said that the full day rehearsal would be held on August 13.
