New Year is near and people are ready to welcome it with their different resolutions. However, you have to be a little careful. Burdening yourself with too many resolutions can put unwanted pressure on you, which will ultimately affect your mental health. Given the amount of mental health problems these days, it is high time that we make it a top priority. Counseling psychologists Maitri Dhingra and Dr. Sonal Anand are our guides to good mental health this New Year.
As per a Hindustan Times report, Dhingra believes that many a times New Year’s resolutions put a lot of pressure on the individual to fulfill them. According to psychologists, the person falls into the trap of anxiety and low self-esteem due to this pressure. She also suggested that many simple resolutions can take a toll on a person’s health.
Dr. Anand also expressed his vision, explaining how a short-term and realistic goal is best for people. According to the doctor, self-healing should be the first priority for people this year. He said that there are many benefits of this practice. The doctor also suggested practicing mindfulness. In times of unfortunate pandemic, many things were not in our hands, so taking it easy and being kind to ourselves should be the primary goal this year.
The psychiatrist also gave advice to the children. She suggested that they should be actively involved in lots of indoor games and exercise instead of just sitting and doing nothing. People should also develop self-awareness this year. Things eventually get better around us when we are a better person.
Mental health is becoming a serious cause of concern with every passing minute. Suicide is becoming the second leading cause of death among 15-29 year olds. The time has come for people to take their mental health seriously.
