‘Dreams are made from this’: Shubman Gill’s post goes viral after scoring double century

Team India Defeated New Zealand by 12 runs in the first game of the three-match series at home on 18 January. The architect of India’s impressive victory was opener Shubman Gill, who became the youngest player to score a double century in ODIs.

Shubman scored 208 runs in just 149 balls to create history at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The memorable knock has taken Twitter by storm.

Sharing pictures from the match on Twitter, the Punjab batsman wrote, “Dreams are made of this.” Cricket Fans were flooded with replies to the tweet with many calling it one of the best ODI innings ever.

“Congratulations on scoring the double century. After watching you bat, I feel ODI cricket is in safe hands.

Another user tweeted, “Many congratulations for that double hundred, what a knock!”

“Insane innings and especially reaching a double century with 3 consecutive sixes was something else!” Read an answer.

Shubman Gill’s 208 included 19 fours and nine sixes and is the joint ninth highest individual score in a men’s ODI. Moreover, Shubman has entered the prestigious club of players who have scored a double century in the 50-over format of the game.

The opener’s form will help skipper Rohit Sharma as he prepares the squad for the ICC ODIs World Cup 2023.

India managed to post 349 runs on the board thanks to Shubman’s brilliant innings. Chasing a challenging target, New Zealand lost opener Devon Conway in the sixth over.

The visiting team was reduced to 131/6 in the 29th over. When it looked like the Kiwis would crumble under pressure, Michael Bracewell stepped up to keep his team in the game.

Bracewell took the game to the last over by scoring a brilliant century. New Zealand needed 20 runs from Shardul Thakur’s last over and victory looked within reach.

However, Thakur kept his composure and took India across the finish line. New Zealand captain Tom Latham will take heart from the fight his team showed in the first ODI. The Kiwis will aim to bounce back in the next ODI on January 21 in Raipur.
