The 2022 film Kathu Vakula Rendu Kadhal, directed by Vignesh Sivan, received mixed reviews. Some praised the film for the good acting, while others criticized the generalizing idea of a woman cheating in a relationship. The film is again in limelight due to an interview of Vignesh with Galta Media. She revealed that actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu was not the first choice for the role of Khatija Begum. Vignesh said that it was Trisha Krishnan who was initially selected to play the role. Trisha could not work in the film at that time and due to this the project got delayed.
Vignesh told that due to Trisha’s refusal, the film could not be made at that time. He then directed the film Thana Serandha Kuttam. Then, they decided to approach Samantha Ruth Prabhu for the role. Initially, she was apprehensive about taking up that role. Vignesh said that he asked her for some time to narrate the story. Samantha liked the script and agreed to play the role of Khatija.
Vignesh is currently gearing up for his new film, tentatively titled Vicky 6. There are no details about the story of this film yet. Actors Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara and Pradeep Ranganathan will play lead roles in this film. Vicky 6 is produced by Rajkamal Films International and Turmeric Media. It is currently in its pre-production stage.
Earlier, it was reported that Vignesh will direct Ajith Kumar in the film AK 62. There were some reports that Ajith was not satisfied with the script. Reports claimed that he would collaborate with director Magizh Thirumani instead of Vignesh for AK 62. These reports were confirmed by the fact that Vignesh removed AK 62 from his Twitter bio.
Vignesh is also looking forward to the April 28 release of Shubh Yatra. Directed by Manish Saini, Shubh Yatra is a Gujarati film produced by Nayanthara and Vignesh production house Rowdy Pictures. This film has been produced by Manish and Amrita Parande. Actresses Monal Gajjar and Malhar Thakar will play lead roles in Shubh Yatra.
