These Samsung Galaxy smartphones will no longer get software updates: All the details

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus smartphone users will now have to consider upgrading to the new phone. The company is blocking all software updates for both these smartphones, due to which there is a possibility of their vulnerability and attack.

Launched in 2018, the Galaxy S9 series has been served with several Android OS updates, while security support has been around for a while. But now, almost four years after their debut, both the smartphones are losing official support from the company.

Last year, the Galaxy S8 series was taken off the list, and security support for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus was downgraded from monthly to quarterly updates.

Now, the time has come for the Galaxy S9 series to lose full support, while the Galaxy S10 lineup will now only receive quarterly security updates.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus Specifications

Samsung Galaxy S9 series was launched in 2018 out of the box with Android 8.0 operating system. The company had promised that the phones would reach Android 10 version. The Galaxy S9 series is powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset, and you get it with up to 4GB of RAM. It had a single 12-megapixel camera at the back and was backed by a 3000mAh battery with support for 15W fast charging at the time.

These phones in the Galaxy S series are from the old Samsung, which was not focused on the software side of its devices. Compare that to the new Samsung, which promises a four-year Android OS update cycle and five years of security updates to smartphones launching in 2021-22.

In fact, the company has gotten efficient with its monthly security update rollout. The Galaxy S22 series has already received the April 2022 security patch, and we are just days into the month.
