Dell has recently launched the XPS 13 Plus laptop series sports an ultra-thin, lightweight design and claims to offer high performance. These new laptops also feature an upgradable SSD and an OLED display. However, the Dell XPS 13 Plus laptops are facing some serious display issues that have been reported by some early users and reviewers. According to a report by The Verge, Dell has confirmed that the company is aware of the screen issue appearing on some OLED models of the laptop. Moreover, the laptop maker is also contacting the affected customers and is likely to recall some products and fix the issue, the report adds.
What is the display issue with Dell XPS 13 Plus OLED models
As per the report, several buyers and reviewers have complained about the display issue since the Plus’ model was released. The screens of these models are either dying or are even falling off from the chassis due to a glue issue. Moreover, a video of an XPS 13 Plus model’s screen (incorrectly labelled as being of the XPS 15) falling off in a Best Buy demo area has also been circulating for some weeks on YouTube, the report mentions.
The report also notes that some users have also reported other display-related issues with the XPS 13 Plus laptops which include — screens dying, exhibiting funky colours, and even losing touchscreen functionality soon after purchase. Meanwhile, users who have ordered the laptop and haven’t received the product yet have also noticed that their units are being labelled as recalled or withdrawn during the ordering process, the report adds.
However, the report couldn’t confirm if these specific recalls are due to the display issue but has mentioned that “XPS 13 Plus orders are up and running on Dell’s website.”
How Dell has reacted to the situation
Dell has issued a statement to The Verge regarding this and has said: “Dell Technologies places the highest priority on the quality of our products.” The laptop maker has also mentioned that it has “discovered that some screens on the XPS 13 Plus OLED systems may become loose because of problems with the third-party adhesive used.”
However, Dell has corrected the issue in its production process and the company is “proactively reaching out to customers who may be impacted to replace the screen, ideally before it becomes loose,” the statement reads.
Moreover, Dell has also noted that the problem is specific to XPS 13 Plus models that sport OLED displays. While the non-OLED models seem unaffected by this issue.
