There is no stay on Tripura civic polls: Supreme Court on TMC’s petition said – Postponing elections will create a wrong trend in the state

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) had filed a petition in the Supreme Court to stop the civic polls in the state over the Tripura violence. Taking a decision on this, the Supreme Court has refused to stay the election. TMC had demanded to postpone the civic polls for a week in view of security.

According to sources, the Supreme Court has also rejected TMC’s demand for appointment of an independent observer. TMC had demanded an officer like retired election commissioner to be made an observer. The court has directed the state DGP and IG (Law and Order) to hold a meeting with the state election commissioner by Wednesday morning. It has been asked to assess the security situation for conducting peaceful elections.

Central forces will be deployed if needed.

The Supreme Court has said that if additional deployment of central forces is considered necessary in the meeting, then a demand can be made from the Home Ministry for the same. The DGP, IG and Home Secretary have been asked to assume responsibility till the results of the elections are declared by December 28. The FIR, action and arrest information registered in every case of complaints will have to be filed in the court on November 25.

TMC said- Police is not serious about the matter
Advocate Jaideep Gupta, appearing for TMC, showed some pictures to the Supreme Court and said that the law and order situation in the state is very bad. Police is not taking any action on this matter. Mahesh Jethmalani, on behalf of the Tripura government, said that there was a demand to postpone the election in the High Court as well. This petition is politically motivated. During the hearing, information about the security of the state was given by the government.

Question asked on controversial speech of BJP MLA
The court asked the Tripura government to question the action taken against the speech of MLA Arun Chandra Bhowmik on August 18. In this, Bhowmik reportedly asked BJP workers to take Taliban-style action against Trinamool leaders.

On this, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, counsel for the state government, said that the MLA has been called for questioning. He said- I do not think that the speech has caused violence, the petitioners are making sesame palm.
