‘There can’t be a protest without Congress’: Tejashwi reveals strategy for 2024, asks parties to drop arrogance

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said that the opposition cannot come together without the Congress and added that to save the country, the parties have to stick together to keep their ego and differences away.

“Congress is an all India party. Opposition cannot come together without Congress. Congress has to be the foundation of any such opposition… so it is our responsibility to present an alternative to the country. Everyone has to come together to save the country, put aside their egos and differences,” Tejashwi Yadav said in an adaptation with The Indian Express.

Highlighting the role of Congress in the opposition, the RJD leader also said that there are at least 200 seats where there is a direct contest between the Congress and the BJP. However, he also said that areas where regional parties are strong should be put in the driving seat.

Speaking on the Bihar assembly elections last year, where the RJD lost to the NDA by a narrow margin, the RJD leader said that he forced the BJP to speak on issues and that the RJD was successful in securing the mandate despite losing the election.

“The mandate of the people was with the Grand Alliance, but you can say that the EC decision was in favor of the NDA… It also shows that we are not just a ‘my (Muslim-Yadav) party’, as is often the case. Supposed to happen, but we are an ‘aged party’.”

When asked about giving 70 seats to the Congress and its poor performance later, Tajashvi said the oldest party has been its oldest ally and RJD will have to make sacrifices to keep the alliance intact.

“Every party wants to fight on more seats. When you are fighting as part of an alliance, be it Congress or RJD, everything is one… If you have to keep the alliance intact, you have to make some small sacrifices, and being the single largest party in Bihar, We did that and brought everyone together,” he said.

Tejashwi also said that he has good relations with LJP leader Chirag Paswan. Paswan was recently removed from the post of party president by his uncle and the former is trying to take back his position.
