ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said in a meeting with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi on Thursday that the world needs to understand the ground realities of Afghanistan.

In the meeting, both the personalities respected the issues of evacuation process in Afghanistan and assistance to Afghan citizens.

Rasheed said the Taliban should ensure the availability of financial and human resources to rule the country.

However, they should be given time to form the government and run the country effectively.

Rashid said Pakistan wants lasting peace in Afghanistan as they discussed the country’s role in dealing with the crisis in the neighboring country.

He said that Pakistan is working 24/7 to evacuate Afghan civilians and foreigners present in Afghanistan.

In addition, Rashid said that the country has also sent aid in the form of food and medicines to Afghanistan on the basis of humanitarian sympathy and it will continue to do so.

“In the context of the current situation, there are no Afghan refugees and no refugee camps in Pakistan,” Rashid said.

Grandi said Pakistan’s continued role in hosting and accommodating three million Afghan refugees is commendable.

“We are grateful to Pakistan for providing security and visa facilities to UN employees,” Grandi said.

He said that the United Nations will not spare Afghan citizens in this crisis and will provide them all possible help.

He said that the United Nations has inspired countries of the world to provide money and aid to Afghanistan.
