Within 12 weeks, the Australian team had lost their captain Tim Paine as well as their coach Justin Langer. Andrew McDonald was appointed as Australia’s head coach after Langer refused to accept a short-term contract renewal in February this year. McDonald initially served as interim coach before renewing his contract in April for four years. Pat Cummins was appointed captain, and it was certainly favorable conditions for someone to take over.
However, the Australians bounced back and won that series, restoring stability to this team after a relatively volatile period.
Tim Paine took over the captaincy following the ball-tampering scandal, which saw Steve Smith and vice-captain David Warner found guilty along with Cameron Bancroft.
Tough times were ahead of him but just when it seemed things were going in the right direction as Paine’s team reclaimed the high-stakes ‘Ashes’ series, a new texting scandal brought premature end to Paine’s international career. Only he will stop.
Like the first season, the second season too focuses on the ups and downs of an Australian team that has been in the news for all the wrong reasons at times.
The second season of ‘The Test’ is about to start streaming amazon prime On 13 January.
