Kolkata had lost Vektesh Iyer, Mandeep Singh and skipper Nitish Rana with just 51/3 on the board by the 8th over. Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah, however, held the fort at one end and scored a half-century, but then Karn Sharma picked up the wickets of himself and Kolkata star Andre Russell in the 12th over and the team looked in deep trouble. Shardul Thakur, however, went on to bat next and played an innings to remember, hitting three sixes and nine fours during his 29-ball 68. Rinku Singh also scored 46 off 33 balls to help Kolkata post 204/7.
Bangalore’s chase never really got going as Faf du Plessis’s men were 69/5 after 10 overs. Virat 21, Faf 23, Maxwell 5 and Dinesh Karthik were dismissed after scoring 9 runs.
Bangalore’s team lost the match by 81 runs after scoring 123 runs in 17.4 overs.
