LUDHIANA: Accusing the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) of not fulfilling their demands, superintendents and inspectors of Central GST commissioners and offices have started a pan-India black badge protest against the board. As part of their agitation, they have started coming to their offices wearing black badges and will resort to protest from April 6, 2022 if their demands are not met.
All the superintendents and inspectors of the offices of the department in Ludhiana, Chandigarh and other cities and towns of the states Punjab, Haryana, Himachal PradeshJammu and Kashmir is participating in this movement.
One of the main reasons cited by the employees for resorting to this protest is that the Inspectors/Superintendents retire only with a single promotion of more than 30-35 years, the duties and responsibilities are not defined, the juniors are given their A supervisory officer is created and there are 10 supervisory officers at the field level without any staff support. The employees are also alleging that the CBIC is not implementing the court orders in this case and the officials who raised their voice against the injustice are being harassed.
Giving more details, Bhagwan Singh, president of All India Association of Superintendents of Central Tax (AIASCT) Chandigarh Zone, said, “Both cadres of superintendents and inspectors are on protest and will keep black badges and display boards on their office tables. This protest will be intensified and there will be a lunch hour meeting at Regional/Regional Head Offices on 23 March 2022 and a proposal will be submitted to the Regional Chief Commissioner on that day for further submission to CBIC.
According to Ajit Kumar, general secretary of All India Inspectors Association of Chandigarh Zone, “Despite clear instructions from CBIC on this matter our main demand of DPC for promotion is not being met and we are also overburdened without specific enumeration. Our duties and very poor infrastructure and without any ministerial staff in the area”
The office bearers of both the associations further informed that if CBIC does not give any positive response and no corrective steps are taken, then the protest will be intensified and day long dharna will be organized in all Headquarter offices on 6th April 2022.
