Mysuru: Mysuru-born Lt Col Anil Urs conferred with prestigious award Shaurya Chakra Award by the President Ram Nath Kovid, He is a second generation soldier from his family.
Lt Col Urs He was selected for the prestigious award for displaying exceptional leadership qualities, resolve, nerves of steel and the spirit of a soldier while preventing five terrorists from entering Indian territory along the Line of Control (LoC). His father Major BSNL Urs also served in the Indian Army. BSN Urs was inducted into the OTA in 1969 and actively participated in the 1971 war against Pakistan in both the Eastern and Western Regions. His mother is Radha Urs.
Anil Urs completed his early schooling at Army School, Bangalore. He later graduated in Biotech. He was commissioned in September 2007.
A second generation Indian Army officer, he is currently posted in the 4th Maratha Light Infantry.
“Looking at my father, I decided to join the armed forces. From the very beginning, my parents also dreamed that I should join the armed forces. Whoever wears the uniform should be treated with utmost sincerity and dedication. It is taught to serve the motherland,” she said.
Married to Manju Singh’s daughter gangeshwar singh, DGP, West Bengal. The couple has a daughter, Ananya Urs.
Earlier, Lt Col Anil Urs has also been given two citations from Northern Command and ARTRAC Command.
