Pune: The Pune Airport Total 100 from Wednesday. will be operational 24 hours with flight Movement between 8 am to midnight, Pune airport director Santosh Dhoke said.
Apart from this, the airport will be closed for civil flight operations Between 9 am and 11:30 am from Sunday to Friday due to practice sessions for IAF jets and between 11 am and 5 pm on Saturdays for runway maintenance. Earlier, the runway had been reserved for sortie sessions of IAF jets from 6:30 am to 8 am.
“The schedule is still being finalized but by 12 midnight there will be around 50 departures and 50 arrivals. The rest of the program will be finalized by late evening. The IAF has told us that they will use the runway for their operations between 9 am and 11:30 am on weekdays and Sundays. During this time, no civilian flights will be operational,” the director said.
The new timing of the Indian Air Force will be tough for many business travelers who prefer morning hours. “Yes it will be a problem but someone has to manage now,” he said. With the introduction of night and red eye flights, frequent businessmen like us will have to take those flights a day earlier,” a frequent traveler told TOI.
An airport official told TOI that the MES (Military Engineering Services) had completed the Airfield Lighting System (AFLS) on Tuesday. “The airport was completely closed for all flight movements from October 14 to October 29 for the final resurgence of the black top flexible portion of the runway. The work was completed in record time and even after the facility opened on 30 October, it remained operational for 13 hours between 8 am and 8 pm till 30 November. Now a total of 450 different types of runway lights have been installed permanently,” an official told TOI.
The airport has been witness to the movement of 120-130 daily flights between 8 am to 8 pm. Once the entire schedule is finalized, the total flight movement will increase.
