Hukamchand alias Chand Mahi, a mountaineer who lives in the slum of Ellenabad city, has previously scaled six peaks ranging from 15,500 feet to 18,000 feet in Himachal Pradesh. Various social and religious organizations here had given financial help for these campaigns. But he was short of money to pay the cost of the plane ticket to Russia and the rest of the course fees. The mountaineering required financial assistance to purchase snow boots and down feather jackets, which were provided by various social organizations.
For this mission, Chand Mahi left for Russia from Ellenabad on 1 April. He started this expedition to climb Europe’s highest peak of 18,500 feet, known as Mount Elbrus in Russia, on 3 July, in which he got success on Thursday morning.
Various dignitaries of the city congratulated him on this achievement and wished him to return home soon.
